Criteria to choose your hockey passing aid
You can't really go wrong with the passer listed above and reviewed in the next sections.
But the list can still be overwhelming.
So below are the criteria you should consider to help you take a decision.
Shape of the passer
First you must choose the passer's shape.
Below are the pros and cons for each to help you decide based on what you are looking for.
Linear
- Pros
Long rebound section
Large variety of price (some are cheaper than the other shapes)
Best adapted to a shooting pad - Cons
If only one passing lane, you can only practice alone
Triangle
- Pros
Versatility of exercises, easy to move around
Can be used with 3 players
Very durable - Cons
Slightly less powerful rebound than the linear bungee cords
4-way
- Pros
Can be used with 4 players - Cons
Bigger product, more difficult to move around
Use Case - on and off the ice
Another essential element to check is where it can be used.
There are 3 main use cases:
- On the ice
- On a shooting pad or shooting tiles
- On a flat surface (concrete, driveway, garage floor...)
Depending on how you plan to use the rebounder, you must check the details to see where it can be used.
Note that the systems that can be used on the ice are normally more expensive as they have an additional gripping system.
Quality of Rebound
Nobody wants to throw the puck at the passer to only get a small rebound.
You want to feel like you are receiving a real pass from a teammate.
Some are better to sending back with a similar force.
Check the reviews for users' feedback.
Generally the products listed in this article offer a great rebound.
Durability
If you are dedicated to improving your skill, you will probably be sending the puck hundreds of thousands of times to millions of times over the course of its life.
Considering the investment you want something durable.
Knowing the repetitive use of their products, manufacturers are paying attention to this. All listed in this article are recognized for their durability.
Price
And finally, there is the price.
There is a good range of prices introduced in this article.
But there are no really cheap alternatives.
However, considering how many exercises you can practice with such a training aid and how much it can help you improve, it is a great investment or hours and hours of fun.
They are one of the great tools to practice stick handling.

4 Exercise ideas to train with an ice hockey passing passer
There are so many types of off-ice hockey exercises you can do with a hockey passer!
You can let your imagination run wild to play with just a puck and your rebounder.
But if it is blank, here are some classic training set ups you can start with:
1 - Avoid a defender
Facing the passer at a distance, send the puck and receive it while moving forward and going around the passer.
This is to imitate receiving a pass and avoiding a defender.
2 - Puck Protection
Practice with the puck close to the passing.
Keep the puck rebounding while protecting it with you stick so that it does not slide far away. Be reactive to where it rebounds.
Perform the exercise in both directions
If you have the Extreme passer pro with 2 passing lanes or one of the triangle rebounders, you can alternate and control the puck in between.
3 - Skate around
On the ice or on synthetic ice, skate around the passer
Around a shooting pad or on the ground, use roller skates and a sliding board to move.
In any case, move around the passer and make rebounds after rebounds to work your reactivity, perception and hand-eye coordination.
You never know where the puck will end up going!
4. In combination with a shooting tarp or shooting goal cover
Position the passer in front of the tarp or goal (see options here).
Shoot into it, receive the pass and shoot a goal.
This imitates receiving a pass from a teammate and trying to score.
Start with the facing position as it is the easiest.
But then, place the passer in many different locations to receive the pass from various angles (on the side, behind you...)
